Assistant Designer, Sept 2009 – Nov 2010

  • Designed for and assisted in the development of five seasonal Ready to Wear collections, concentrated in blouses and day dresses
  • Worked as the liaison between the design studio and factories in Naples and Milan as well as interfacing with the in-house atelier and domestic factories to manage the development of samples
  • Traveled to Naples and Milan to assist in fittings with Mr. de la Renta and the Senior Designer where I spec’ed sketches, advised design solutions, and acted as a liaison between Mr. de la Renta and Italian fabric mills
  • Assisted in the development and production of all fashion shows for Resort, Spring, Pre-fall, Fall, and Bridal
  • Controlled the process of finalizing showroom looks after each fashion show by overseeing alterations and additions in notions and trims.
  • Represented the design studio in interoffice affairs such as communicating seasonal inspiration of each collection to inform and motivate the sales teams
  • Spearheaded the studio intern program which entailed recruiting, hiring, supervising, and evaluating interns

  • Worked primarily with the Vice President of design with draping, pattern drafting, sewing swatches, sketching, rendering and vintage research
  • Constructed muslins, cut bias strips, dyed fabrics, vintage research, communicated with factories
  • Presented blouse sketches to Mr. de la Renta and one design was developed and became the bodice for a cocktail dress. It later expanded to two cocktail dress styles and one evening gown of which one was seen on Fall 2010 runway
  • Assisted the design team in fittings led by Mr. de la Renta
  • Assisted knit designer with layouts and embroidery developments for knits
  • Developed an awareness of merchandising and business while aiding the sales team during market weeks
  • Sourced and designed trims that were presented Mr. de la Renta.
  • Participated in the Resort, Spring, Prefall, Fall, and Bridal collection development and runway shows.
